PETA Takes on (Apparently Evil) Canadian Maple Syrup Makers
by Tig Tillinghast
The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) are promoting a boycott of Canadian maple syrup. They’re not so much concerned with the abuse of maple trees as they are the annual seal harvest. PETA apparently believes that getting folks to stop using maple syrup from Canada will bludgeon our northern neighbors sufficiently that they’ll think twice about allowing the seal hunt to continue.
Lots of comments on the PETA blog show that a good many people think p

unishing farmers for the actions of a different industry might be unfair. While Vermonters would stand to gain, it won’t sit well with our sugarmakers, who tend to stick together. There are some great reasons to buy Vermont maple syrup above all others, but they’re not political.
On the other hand, PETA has a great little boycott logo, with a bloody maple leaf. Would make a great ball cap logo for a Grade B slasher film.

That is one of the craziest thing I have every heard. One more reason I don’t like Peta.
Bizarre, it should be the other way round. If maple syrup was more profitable than beating baby seals over the head, then maybe they would become maple syrups farmers instead. PETA’s scheme is irrational and will not work to achieve what the seek to achieve, just alienate a whole bunch of people who might even support their objectives.
