I found the same problems yesterday afternoon when the sap ran for abit. Leaking saddles and cracked fittings spewing sap. I took my pack basket and snowshoed up the hill to do the repairs today. The clouds hung tight and didn't see the sun till almost 2pm. Barely a trickle running into the stocktank when I left at 3pm. Seems like the same every year. I did add 5 more taps. I had a stash of tubing up on the hill and thought I oughta make the trip count. I think we're a bit over 550 taps right now . . . . I'm sure we'll hang a few more buckets.
On my way home I stopped on the church hill and peered through the untapped sugarbush just below my neighbors house. There must be 300 taps anyway with just what I can see!And some real big dandys!
Maple lust isn't so bad,is it?
